snowmelt logo sketches #1

I know when I was first thinking of logo ideas, the water droplet was a big part of it, and I think I did some sketches somewhere else…maybe in the margins of a notebook or something. The idea of what I wanted it to be was clear in my head; it was a matter of taking those nebulous curves and establishing what they would look like on paper. Primarily, the design needed to be recognizable for what it was without explanation. At the same time, I wanted it to be something that I could quickly draw, with the same ease and utility of motion as a signature. It was a signature. I wanted to explore some different ideas to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything on the table.…

medium-rare

Play-doh colors are meant to be mixed and combined and integrated. But the very reusable nature of the medium (yes, Play-doh is an art medium) discourages the user from doing so; we don’t worry about mixing paint or clay or sand or whatever because when the art is done, it’s done. Nobody scrapes the watercolors back into the tube. The pinkish-red hue that’s included (this is a grilling set) is actually pretty spot on for a nice medium/medium-rare center. I doubt these will be easy to separate, but I think that should be ok.
