The smartphone chirps
It’s time for bed
I put away my things
My work is done
(For now)
I brush my teeth
Wash my face
And
Responsibly
I am prepared for a
Good
Night’s
Sleep
But there’s a toddler
In my mind
I want to
Plaaaaaaay
We should
Plan a fort
Or a menu
Of pizzas and grilled cheese
For the week, for the month
Remember
Those GI Joes
From childhood
They were fun
The time
We made a zip line
From the bannister
To the couch
With paper clips
And masking tape
Also
What makes a chair
A chair
And
What’s the meaning
Of it all
Focus on breathing
Count the exhalations
Up to eight
Back down again
Sink into the mattress
I want to
Plaaaaaaay
I have
So
Many
Ideas
For things we can do
When we’re awake
For activities
Like
Learning to ride horses
And
Paddle boarding in the lake
And
Why not join a paintball league?
and also
Let’s remember
Every embarrassing thing
We’ve
Ever
Done
Perhaps a turn
A shift in position
Will quiet the voice
I’ll sing a song now
Over and over
But I don’t
Remember
All
The words
In fact
Let’s write lyrics
And a melody
Orchestration
To go along with it
And think about what we’ll do
With the royalty checks
I think we’ll be able to keep it real
As a celebrity
Of the people
I am trying to be
(Do I like pie?)
A functional adult
(Is a hot dog a sandwich?)
But there is a toddler
(I should buy a boat)
Who doesn’t want to sleep
(Are cucumbers fruits?)
And won’t take no
(Know?)
For an answer
(I’m going to buy three boats)
So
I will be sleepy
All day tomorrow
But I have some great ideas
For a small business
Building websites
For squirrels
