snowmelt logo sketches #1

I know when I was first thinking of logo ideas, the water droplet was a big part of it, and I think I did some sketches somewhere else…maybe in the margins of a notebook or something. The idea of what I wanted it to be was clear in my head; it was a matter of taking those nebulous curves and establishing what they would look like on paper.

Primarily, the design needed to be recognizable for what it was without explanation. At the same time, I wanted it to be something that I could quickly draw, with the same ease and utility of motion as a signature. It was a signature.

I wanted to explore some different ideas to make sure I wasn’t leaving anything on the table. So I grabbed the traditional bar napkin and started drawing. Some elements I played around with included a much more detailed snowflake, alternate symbols for water, a reflection on the surface of the drop, and a very “Heart of Te Fiti” swirl.
